Art deco & black tie designs

Gold geometry, champagne coupes and inky black: art deco is for the nights worth dressing up for. Midnight deco is a whole wedding suite in the style, twelve pieces from the save the date to the table numbers and the unplugged ceremony sign.

Black tie lights brings the same glamour to a sixtieth, a silver or golden anniversary, a retirement do, a charity gala and a grand opening. There are Christmas cocktail and office parties, a 1920s murder mystery dinner, fortieth birthdays, and New Year’s Eve invitations and a menu as well.

Your first design is free with an account. After that it’s 99p a design, or £5 a month for every design. A ready-made Canva invitation template on Etsy is usually £6 to £10. See how we compare

Getting the black-tie look right

  • Say the dress code plainly, “Black tie” or “Dress: 1920s glamour”, so nobody arrives in jeans, or in a dinner jacket by mistake.
  • Keep the wording short and centred: deco looks best with plenty of space around the gold.
  • Set names and dates in capitals, as the designs do; they suit the geometric lines.
  • The gold is printed artwork, not foil, so it prints as a warm gold colour. Ask a print shop for a pearlescent or metallic card if you want it to catch the light.
  • For a murder mystery, give each guest their character on their own invitation, so they can plan the costume.

Questions about art deco & black tie designs

What does black tie on an invitation mean?
A formal evening: dinner jackets and bow ties, and long or cocktail dresses. Put “Black tie” at the foot of the invitation so guests know to dress up, and give them at least four weeks to sort an outfit.
Is there a matching art deco wedding set?
Yes. Midnight deco has a wedding invitation, evening invitation, save the date, RSVP card, details card, menu, welcome sign, seating plan, table number, ceremony programme, photo thank-you card and unplugged sign, and opens in the editor all at once, one tab per piece.
What suits a 1920s or Great Gatsby party?
The deco noir murder mystery invitation and the champagne tower fortieth were made for it, and the midnight toast cocktail party works for any December do. Add “Dress: roaring twenties” and let the feathers and pearls follow.
