Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Papercrumb collects, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- You can browse, personalise designs and download proofs without an account. Those designs stay in your browser, and we never see them.
- If you create an account, we keep your email address, your saved designs (including photos you add) and your favourites, so you can open them on any device.
- We count visits without cookies and without recording which pages you look at. You can turn this off.
- We don’t sell your information, show adverts or send marketing emails.
Who we are
Papercrumb is run by Trine Studios in the United Kingdom. We’re the controller of the personal information described here, which means we decide how it’s used. For anything about your information, email hello@papercrumb.com.
What we collect and why
Designs on your device
When you personalise a design, it’s saved in your browser so you can come back to it, along with any photos you add and the templates you favourite. If you’re not signed in, these stay on your device and never reach us.
Your account
Your email address, your password, your name if you add one, and when you joined and last signed in. Your password is stored in a scrambled form that can’t be read back, even by us. We use these details to run your account and send you account emails. Lawful basis: providing the service you’ve asked for (contract).
Saved designs and favourites
When you’re signed in, your designs (their wording, photos and layout) and your favourites are saved to your account so they follow you between devices. Designs often include personal details, such as names, dates, addresses and photos of you, your family or your guests, including children. We use them only to save your designs and make your files. We don’t look through them or use them for anything else, and we’d only open one if you asked us to (for example, to help with a problem) or the law required it. Lawful basis: contract.
Purchases
When checkout opens, we’ll keep a record of what you buy, when, what you paid and whether you have Unlimited. A specialist payment provider will handle payments, so we’ll never see or store your full card details. We’ll name the provider here before checkout opens. Lawful basis: contract, and keeping the records that tax law requires (legal obligation).
Account emails
We send emails to confirm your address, reset your password, confirm a change of email address and send security codes. They go through our email provider, Postmark. We don’t send marketing emails, and if we ever want to, we’ll ask you first. Lawful basis: contract.
Reports
If you use Report a problem, we receive your message, a screenshot only if you attach one, which part of Papercrumb you were using, your account ID and your name if you’ve added one. Reports don’t include your email address. We use them to fix problems and improve Papercrumb. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a service that works.
Help requests
If you use Get help or email us, we receive your email address, your name if you’ve added one, your messages and any attachments, and we use them to answer you. To sort new requests, the subject and first message, with email addresses and phone numbers removed, are passed to TypeSafe, an AI service that picks a category such as “account” or “privacy” so urgent requests reach us first. It doesn’t reply to you or make decisions about you. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in answering you, or contract when it’s about something you’ve bought.
Keeping Papercrumb secure
Our hosting and database providers record technical details such as IP addresses, browser type and the time of each request, to deliver the site and protect it. To stop reports and help requests being misused, we keep short-lived, scrambled records of your account ID and network address. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in keeping Papercrumb secure.
Visitor statistics
We count visits with our own visitor statistics. They store a random ID in your browser for up to 90 days, so we can tell new visits from returning ones. They count page views without recording which pages you view, where you came from or who you are, and they’re never linked to your account. The counts are kept for 90 days and aren’t shared with anyone. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, it’s never counted.
Checking this browser…
Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how many people use Papercrumb. UK law doesn’t require consent for storage used only for statistics like this, as long as we explain it and let you turn it off.
Storage on your device
Papercrumb doesn’t use cookies. It uses your browser’s storage for:
- your designs, photos and favourites
- keeping you signed in
- the visitor statistics ID, and your choice if you turn statistics off.
All of these are needed for features you use, apart from the statistics ID, which you can turn off above. Clearing your browser’s data for papercrumb.com removes them, including any designs that aren’t saved to an account.
Information outside the UK
Some of these companies are based in, or process information in, the United States or other countries outside the UK. When information leaves the UK, it’s protected by safeguards that UK law recognises, such as adequacy regulations (including the UK–US data bridge for certified companies) or the UK’s approved international data transfer contracts.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Your account, saved designs and favourites | Until you delete them or your account |
| Designs in your browser | Until you delete them or clear your browser’s data |
| Purchase records | As long as tax law requires, normally six years after the end of the financial year |
| Help requests | 365 days after they’re resolved (spam: 30 days) |
| Reports | Up to 90 days |
| Visitor statistics | 90 days |
| Security records | Normally a few hours |
| Our providers’ logs and backups | As set by each provider. Backups can hold deleted information for a short time. |
Deleting your account
On your account page, choose Delete my account. That deletes your sign-in, saved designs (including photos), favourites and profile straight away. Help requests, reports and purchase records are kept for the periods above, then deleted. Files you’ve already downloaded aren’t affected, and designs saved in your browser stay there unless you choose to remove them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your information
- correct it
- delete it
- limit how we use it, or object to us using it
- give you the information you provided in a format you can take elsewhere.
Email hello@papercrumb.com. We’ll reply within a month, and we may need to check that the account is yours first. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Papercrumb is for adults planning events and isn’t designed for children. You must be 13 or over to create an account. Designs often mention children, such as a name on a birthday invitation, and we protect that like any other part of your design.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page when the way we handle information changes, and the date at the top shows the latest version. If a change affects you, we’ll email you before it applies.
