Adoption announcements and adoption day invitations

However long the road to this day, it deserves a card as lovely as any birth announcement. Share the news with a painted arch around your first family photo, paper birds bringing a little one home, two kites for brothers and sisters joining a family together, or a robin’s nest that says “growing our family” while you wait.

There’s a starry invitation for an adoption day party, and a card and first-week memory page for a rescue dog or cat. Change every word to suit your family, then print it or send the image.

Your first design is free with an account. After that it’s 99p a design, or £5 a month for every design. A ready-made Canva invitation template on Etsy is usually £6 to £10. See how we compare

Wording ideas for an adoption announcement

  • Start with the joy: “After a long wait, our family is complete”, “Officially ours, forever loved” or “Welcome home, little one”.
  • Share only what you’re comfortable with. Many families leave out birth dates, birthplaces and photos that show a face, especially while a placement is new; your social worker can advise.
  • Give the day it became official, or the day they came home. Some families celebrate it every year as their family day.
  • Adopting siblings? Name them side by side, so the card is about all of them at once.
  • Thank the people who helped: foster carers, your agency and the family who waited with you.

Questions about adoption announcements and cards

When should you send an adoption announcement?
Whenever you’re ready. Some families wait for the adoption order, so the news is final; others share it the week their child comes home. A card that arrives months later is just as welcome.
Can I make an adoption announcement without a photo?
Yes. The paper birds, two kites and robin’s nest cards are illustrated, with no photo frame, so you can share the news without a picture of your child. The arch and “home at last” cards have a frame if you’d like one.
Can I print adoption announcements at home?
Yes. Each 5 × 7 inch card and 6 × 4 inch postcard comes with an A4 sheet to print at home and cut along the crop marks, as well as a PDF for a print shop and an image to send by text or email.
